In 1947, Sugar Ray Robinson beat Jimmy Doyle in a title fight. Doyle died at a hospital a short time after. Robinson had had a dream the night before that he killed Doyle in the ring and tried to call the fight off.

In 2006, the 'Battle of Nuremberg' between Portugal and the Netherlands. Sixteen yellow cards and 4 red cards were handed out.

In 1926, golfer Bobby Jones won the British Open for the first time.

In 1997, the San Antonio Spurs drafted Tim Duncan with the first pick

In 1999, Duncan led the Spurs to their first NBA title but it was Avery Johnson who hit the big shot.

In 1979, the Los Angeles Lakers drafted Magic Johnson with the first pick.

In 1992, Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Jerome Brown died in a car accident that also claimed the life of his 12-year old nephew.
