In 1982, Stanford with senior QB John Elway played San Jose State coached by Jack Elway for the fourth and final time.

In 1988, Arnold Palmer won his final golf tournament.

In 1999, 35-year old Jim Morris made his major league debut with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. His story inspired a movie with Dennis Quaid playing Morris.
